A graduate of Columbia University with additional professional certificates in Culinary Arts and Holistic Nutrition, Carly’s career has spanned the fields of editorial, marketing and branded content. Previous in-house roles have included content management and creative direction for the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE), Chef Daniel Boulud - The Dinex Group and food product design firm W&P. From copywriting to content strategy, Carly excels at guiding clients through the brand identity process, translating core values and marketing objectives into strategic, multi-channel storytelling.

Favorite thing you've ever eaten / or most exciting food experience? In recent memory, the freshly made soba at Sagatani Shibuya in Tokyo.

What is one common misconception people have about branding? That it’s more important to be original than to be real. Truly successful branding feels a lot like therapy—building your company’s story from the ground up.

What’s your superpower? Asking meaningful questions.

Which historical figure do you most identify with? Ernest Hemingway… minus the womanizing and alcoholism. Brevity is beauty.

LAUREN DEFILIPPO

Design & Photography

A graduate of Parsons, The New School for Design, Lauren worked in the design departments of AvroKo and Ceci New York before relocating to Colorado, where she served as the Brand Manager for Richard Sandoval Restaurants for three years. Since launching Cognoscenti Creative, Lauren has continued to work with numerous artisanal and hospitality businesses, and she was also honored to be accepted into Collective Quarterly's 2018 Chico Portfolio Showcase. Her dual talents in graphics and still images make her an exceptional resource for brands seeking a cohesive visual identity.

Favorite thing you've ever eaten / or most exciting food experience? I thought I knew Cacio e Pepe, but Roscioli in Rome takes pasta, pepper and parmesan to another level.

What is one common misconception people have about branding? That a logo = a brand. There’s so much more that goes into constructing a successful visual identity.

What’s your superpower? Honest communication.

If you could have lunch with one person, who would you choose? Joni Mitchell. I’ve always been fascinated with the period of music she came up in and wondered about the stories behind her songs.
